The app
MagnetPlayer has no accounts, no telemetry, no analytics and no ads. Besides the BitTorrent network — the trackers, the DHT and the peers of the torrents you open — and your own devices on the local network, it talks only to magnet-player.com, to check for updates. Settings and the list of recent items stay on your device.
The update check asks magnet-player.com whether a newer version exists, a few seconds after the app starts and then once a day. It sends only the app’s version, its package type (for example a Debian package, the Windows installer or Android) and the processor architecture — no identifiers. A new version is downloaded from the site only when you agree. Automatic checks can be turned off in Settings → Updates.
On computers it also listens for incoming peers on port 6881 and asks your router over UPnP to open that port to the internet. Both can be turned off in Settings → Network. On Android, UPnP is off, and by default the app listens on port 6881 only while other devices may control it (see “Devices on your network”), so that your devices can take saved films from it; if you set a port yourself in Settings → Network, it listens on that one regardless.
As with any BitTorrent client, peers in a swarm see your IP address. Uploading to them is off unless you turn on “Upload while watching”.
Devices on your network
While “Allow control from other devices” is on, MagnetPlayer announces itself on the local network over mDNS: the device name, a device ID, the kind of device, its system and the app version. While that switch is on or some device is allowed, it accepts connections from devices on the same local network, usually on a TCP port from 47800 to 47809. When you look for devices to send to, it asks the local network which ones are there. None of this leaves your local network.
Another device can control this one only after you allow it here; Settings lists the allowed devices and removes them. When you send a saved film or album to one of your devices, it goes over the local network only to that device, even with uploading off; “Share with my devices” in Settings turns this off.

The site sets no cookies and runs no analytics, tracking pixels or third-party scripts. Fonts and images are served from the site itself. The language comes from the address and the colour theme from your system settings; nothing is stored in your browser.
The web server’s access log records the requested address (a page, a downloaded file or an update check), the response status and the time it took — without IP addresses. The hosting infrastructure may keep its own network logs.
